FAQ

Over the past few years, I’ve received many questions about my classes, the prices, the schedule and how to get started…here are my most common Pilates questions!

In the Pilates group classes will I get enough individual attention?

Yes, you will always get all the instruction, form correction, guidance and support that you need.
I find with many one on one sessions with a Pilates instructor, the trainer and client just spend a lot of time talking about their personal lives and in the end the trainer wastes a lot of time counting. Why pay $70+ an hour for someone to count your reps? You can count your reps at home! And if you’re looking for someone to talk about your personal life to for an hour then consider going for coffee with a friend or going to a therapist. While I love chatting with you and giving support where I can, a professional is probably better use of your money in that area of your life!
I offer well-paced full body workouts with enough support and motivation that you’ll need to achieve your desired results.
With the semi-private pilates sessions, you will enjoy training with 1 or more fellow workout partners who will support and encourage you. You’ll be able to share your successes and challenges as you move towards your goals together.  Every single person I teach gives and receives support and unconditional acceptance.

Often having another person next to you on the mat or reformer will give you the extra energy you need on a day when you really don’t feel like working out or getting in touch with your powerhouse. The energy will start bouncing back and forth and the overall effect is you working harder than you would if you were alone!

On top of that you’ll receive personalized hands-on support from me. Using the combination of all these amazing forces–my support, technique guidance, and motivation, topped with the social support from your fellow Pilates partners is something you just can’t get with one on one training.

Even though there are many positive aspects to Pilates group classes, everyone is different. Some people prefer to workout one on one with a trainer. Contact me if you prefer or would like to start with private mat Pilates sessions or private reformer Pilates sessions.

Are the Pilates workouts on the mat, on the Pilates machines or both?

I like to mix things up for my clients, so unless you have told me you don’t want anything but mat, I will sometimes pop you on a machine or add in some small apparatus to increase the intensity of our workout together. I like to blend a few different techniques into the workout so you never get bored. There are always the drills and warm ups we do on the mat, but don’t be surprised if I take out a foam roller or my trusty pair of Valslides.   In my Venice location, I also include work on the Power Plate.

How many people are in the small group workouts?

Generally, I like to keep the groups around 3 people. This allows me to give you the same personalized attention I give to the private Pilates clients, but also so you get that benefit I talked about above in the group sessions. Some studios I teach classes at do have up to 10 people in the class, but it is much harder for me to give the individual attention. However, again, the energy is totally different in a class of 10 people–so maybe you’d prefer that over a smaller group.

Ok..but how much do the pilates classes cost?

The cost of the sessions really depends on what you want and how often you want it. The sessions on the reformer and mat range from $35 – $75 per session based on a 3, 6, or 12 month program.

For the 2x a week scheduled group reformer classes, your first class is $25. After that, the rate depends on how often you want to come and the length of your commitment.  I offer 3, 6, and 12 month programs with most people coming 2x per week or signing up for a 6 month program.  For more information on my Pilates packages, please email me.

Why do I need a Pilates instructor?

I know there are a ton of Pilates DVDs out there. You can definitely get the benefits of Pilates at home, but you will get so much more from someone who is trained to guide your body. Even as an instructor, I take Pilates classes just so I can get corrected. There is no physical way to adjust yourself if you can’t see all angles of your body!

Also, even I didn’t achieve many of my fitness goals until I worked with a coach who’s job was to push me harder than I would push myself.
I always suggest people come take Pilates privates with me if their goal is to do at home Pilates. If you have one of the home reformers from QVC, an aeropilates machine, or a pilates performer, I can customize a routine that works for you. We can even update your workout every few weeks or every month depending on how often you like to switch up your workouts.

Will you help me with my nutritional habits?

I provide nutrition guidance, but I am not a licensed nutritionist. I have found some really effective ways to eat better and change my overall eating for good. I will share those with you and also discuss how to keep track of your progress.

Do I need to get a membership or buy a package?

You don’t NEED to buy a membership or package, but the price will be considerable higher. Plus, I do require everyone I work with to make a 1 month commitment to themselves and me.  You will pay for each period of training in advance.

Shouldn’t I just buy a Pilates DVD instead of hiring a Pilates instructor?

Again, this is a personal decision. I do think having a physical Pilates instructor is a great way to jump start your fitness goals. You might start out with 3x per week and then slowly scale back to 1x a week. Or like I said, you might want me to create you a customized home Pilates workout that we update on a regular basis.

If you really don’t have the money to spend, talk to me. I have some creative ways for you to get the best of both worlds–class and at home workouts.

Another option is to purchase my short mp3 Pilates workouts.  If you would like to know more about these Pilates audio workouts, please contact me.

How long do the workouts last?

Most sessions are 55 minutes long.  I also offer 30 minutes if you want a short & sweet workout.

I once went to a class and all the teacher did was stand there and counts reps. Is that what you do?

I don’t count reps, I watch form. I tell you to count your own reps just to keep your brain busy and body moving. I am here to watch you stay in the right form and that each “rep” counts as a good one.

I will make another comment about this…don’t be surprised if I have you keep doing something and you are like, “um, we are on 12 now..” I will always tell you when it’s important to note the reps – especially if we work one side of the body with certain side-lying pilates moves–to keep things even on both sides!

How many days a week should I attend the Pilates classes or Pilates private sessions to achieve a Pilates Body?

At first, it’s great to work out 3x per week. We can design your own plan so it fits your schedule and budget.  Results take longer if you are only able to do say 1 class per week–but you will see results.  It’s not a waste of time–invest whatever time you can and you will reach your goal.

Do I need to do any other workouts on my own?

I like to give homework. So…you might want to. Homework isn’t to punish you…it’s to make our workouts together even more effective, so you can get into that Bikini or those skinny jeans even faster.

Where do we workout?

Depends…on the weather, where I am on that given day and most importantly what feels right for you. I have 2 different private studios to choose from as well as a private gym where you can also get your cardio in before the session.

Do I need any experience to take the group reformer classes?

No! You don’t need any experience at all! You just have to leave your ego at the door and keep your eyes and mind on yourself. There is no competition…even though the others in your group might inspire you to work harder. I always take time with the Pilates beginner to make sure you feel safe and keep moving!

Beginners are my specialty and I’m really passionate about taking on people who have never touched a reformer before.

How does your Pilates membership or subscription offer work exactly?

You get private coaching session with me 1x per month where we can discuss specific things you can do to help you succeed, whether it’s food, motivation, just general support or even how to deal with pain you might be experiencing. This is our monthly heart to heart where you tell me what’s going on and I listen…then offer suggestions and support.

You also get the number of sessions you sign up for – normally it’s 2-3 per week.

You’ll also have access to my upcoming membership site –with videos, motivation, recipes, articles, and other highly customized information I’ve created just for my clients.
