Recently, I’ve had a lot of changes in my life…external and internal. I’m never one to hold back and pretend everything’s peachy…even though sometimes I probably should zip it. But if you know me…you know when I get going, I have a hard time shutting up.
What I’ve noticed over that time is that I love to focus my attention on these new things — which I logically know is important when starting any new activity or project. Sometimes though, I forget to pull back a bit and refocus on the rest of my life.
And usually without fail…my “established”, healthy habits start to deteriorate.
See this picture of me? It was taken more than 5 years ago. Has it been that long since I’ve been some place tropical? Or truly been on a real vacation?
As I’ve become busier and busier over time with new clients, different projects, new interests, moving houses, family visits…it’s harder to actually get that regular workout in. To remember that eating too much white flour makes me feel puffy & lethargic.
I end up feeling like crap that I haven’t made time…or am spending my time making excuses why I didn’t get to the workout PLUS I don’t feel super duper on a physical level.
When it comes down to managing my time, to setting boundaries…to giving a s%@t about myself and reminding myself WHY I do it in the first place, there are only a few things that help me regain my footing.
Over the past 2 years since lots of “stuff” really hit the fan and my life has made some major shifts (do I need to mention my mommy identity crisis that I battle daily?), I’ve developed what I call the Life Workout.
Up until now I haven’t really shared it with anyone.
Just like working on different parts of your body or focusing on flexibility one day and strength another and cardio on another day, I routinely sit back and make sure I take inventory of the different areas of my life and evaluate what’s going on.
Only You Can Know If Your Life Is Out Of Balance
Why do I do this?
It’s easy to let your health go if you are consumed with your career or your social life or your family. Spend too much time in career mode and your relationship might suffer.
Run around with your friends every night and your career might not get the attention it needs or your family will feel neglected.
Do you see what I’m getting at?
Time to Take Inventory
So, today I’m going to share with you how I take inventory and put my life workout in motion.
I’ve even made you a handy dandy worksheet that you can print out to do your own!
I suggest doing this on a regular basis. Maybe Sunday mornings over coffee or 1 evening a week before you go to bed. Maybe you want to do it more often. That’s great too!
You’ll see that with small steps or actions in your weaker areas, everything might start working a little bit better.
You might feel a little lighter.
You’ll be less stressed.
You’ll fall asleep easier & have a better night’s sleep!
You’ll be happier.
You’ll make others happier around you too!
You’ll be more focused.
You’ll enjoy what you’re doing instead simply enduring.
Did I mention you’ll just feel better in general?
What Can You Do Right Now?
Download the attached worksheet and start by listing the things that feel like they aren’t working–they can be big, small, very specific, or general. No one’s grading you. Make the list what’s weighing most heavily on you.
